1. Put on the blue dress with long sleeve. If you can get one with floral or red polka-dots prints will be an added bonus. If you don't have a long sleeve blue dress, here is an option. Add a long sleeve blue t-shirt under a blue sleeveless dress. Another option is to shop at your local thrift shop and find the right dress you want.

2. Put on red and white striped tights or knee-length socks.

3. Put on your bloomers. If you can't find one make do with something that resembles like one. Example white short can be substitute and you can sew white calico lace to have the effect. The bloomers need to be longer than the dress.

4. Put on the white apron over the dress. Be sure that the apron is slightly shorter than the dress.

5. Fix your hair to look like Raggedy Ann's. You can wear a red mob-like wig, purchase at a thrift store or make one yourself. Get a mop-head and dye it red then turn it into a wig. Alternatively, dye your hair red with temporary hair colour spray. If you have long hair, wash and curl your hair. Then put on a blue or white ribbon to complete the look.

1. Get a green nightcap. If you cannot find one, a green wizard hat may work too.

3. Put a green tunic over the white shirt, and must be longer than white shirt.

• If you are trying to be the Ocarina of Time's Young Link, you do not need the pants, undershirt, and gloves.

• If you are trying to be the Minish Cap/Wind Waker/Four Swords/Phantom Hourglass Link, the tunic should be Black/Green/Blue/Purple/Red, and the undershirt should be a lighter shade of that color. No gloves are needed for this costume.

5. If you would like to, wear a lavender eye-shadow. A nice bronze will also look great with your pale skin.
6. If you would like to look like a "just fed" vampire, put the lightest blush you can find on the apples of your cheeks.
7. You may wear a light pink lipstick, a dark red, or a pinkish purple. The pinkish purple was the one used on all of the Cullen in the twilight movies, but Dark Red is good for Rosalie and pink is good for Alice and Esme.
8. And you are good to go.

1. Find a shirt made of a light, gauzy fabric in white with a loose fit.
2. See if you have any jeans or cotton twill pants in beige, brown, or deep wine in your closet.
3. Buy a long sleeveless vest in wine or deep blue.
4. Tie a blood-red hair scarf or bandanna around your forehead and secure low, at the nape of your neck.
5. Try and find a purchased hat with dreadlocks attached to it, as it provides the most authentic look.
6. Select a few of the dreadlocks and crisscross-tie them with red string.
7. Add bits of bone, silver beads, and/or a small feather to the hat/hair.
8. Wear the key to the chest of Davy Jones around your neck. This key is an antique green color and has the unique double prong; you can always use whatever you can find.
9. Add a silver skull ring to copy the one Jack wears around his neck on a leather cord. A deep forest green stone surrounded with many tiny little skulls is ideal, and you're more than likely to find something similar at Hot Topic.
10. Add a fake cutlass, a sword and a flintlock pistol for your weapons.
11. Get a compass that resembles that mysterious compass everyone is after.
12. Remember, that unlike a typical compass, north is not the direction it points, instead directing you toward the thing you most desire.
13. Put everything on and you are ready to be Jack Sparrow.

• If purchasing a white men’s shirt, go one size larger than you would normally choose and leave the top 3-4 buttons undone.
• How to make a rigged compass: Open up the bottom and attach to the needle a rather large disk, which will take the place of a circular section of the bottom of the box. Then, just carve out a little niche in one part of the little disk/wheel in the bottom. Now you should be able to spin the needle with your finger!

How to Make Dorothy's Ruby Red Slippers

Want to click those ruby red heels together and recite lines from the classic story? Well, once you learn how to make Dorothy's Ruby Red Slippers, you can!

Steps

1. Clean the shoes that you are going to use. Avoid using new shoes.
2. Lay out old newspaper outside or in a well-ventilated place and place shoes on it.
3. Paint shoes with red paint. If using spray paint, follow directions on label and read the warnings, if using acrylics, make sure you have sufficient experience to guarantee evenness, if you don't, use spray paint.
4. Try for two even coats. Try to buy red shoes straight up, this will avoid the 'home-made/cheap' look, and cut down the time and effort required.
5. Leave shoes to dry in well-ventilated area for 1-2 days, to make sure that when gluing on sequins the paint will not come off. (the purpose of this is so the natural color of the shoe will not come through the gaps between the sequins)
6. Plug in the hot glue gun and wait for it to heat up. Glue guns work in a similar fashion to an electric stovetop, so it may take awhile (1-2 min) for the wires in the glue gun to heat up enough to melt the glue.
7. Lay out large red sequins.
8. Glue on sequins one at a time with a small dab of hot glue, place them as close together as possible, but don't shove them together (this step will take a long time, so play some music or put on a movie, but not a very interesting one, otherwise you will get nothing done) You can also use spray glue in a can similar to hairspray, found in your local craft store, and any type of glitter. This method is a lot faster. Just spray and sprinkle glitter on shoes. Use newspaper so you can reuse excess glitter.
9. Let the shoes dry/cool for about 15 minutes.
10. Shake the shoes to see if any sequins are loose or coming off, if they are, replace them, only this time, use a little more glue.
11. Repeat steps 9 and 10 until no more sequins come off.
12. Wear with pride!

Tips

• Only paint the outside of the shoes, fill the inside with old newspaper so that paint will not go in.
• Only cover the top part of the shoe with sequins, leave the sole as is.
• If you want to be more accurate to the original story, use silver paint and silver sequins, since in Frank L Baum's original story, Dorothy's shoes were silver. They were changed to red in the film to provide a high contrast between the shoes and the Yellow Brick Road and most people now associate the shoes as red.
• This is not a child-friendly project, older children with a sufficient sense of responsibility could do this, but if you want a professional look, only let adults or teens make the shoes.
• If you need something quicker get a pair of red canvas shoes and put some red glitter on them.
• You can make bows by cutting out a bow shape and hot gluing bugle beads and rhinestones to it, or just more sequins and glitter. Cardboard that has been painted red is a good choice, or (if you can get it) leather that has been painted.

Warnings

• The fumes given off by paint (especially spray paint) can be toxic, point all aerosol cans away from people and animals, and always spray paint outside or in a well-ventilated place. (open any doors or windows and mobile fans are very useful if pointed towards open door or window)
• Hot glue from the gun is hot; try not to get any hot glue on bare skin, because it will blister, do not let small children use hot glue guns (there are cool glue guns that you can let them use, the glue is still hot and will hurt, but wont blister, usually.)

• Shoes-preferably heeled shoes, to be more accurate to the movie, but old sneakers are fine, especially for trick-or-treating.
• Red paint (spray paint gives a more even effect, and is much easier and faster to use, but pretty much any paint will do)

Dress Up As Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz

If you'd like to capture Dorothy's look for cosplay, fancy dress or Halloween events, this article has some tips and suggestions to help you.

Steps

1. Copy Dorothy's hairstyle. In the movie, Dorothy's hair is usually in two pony tails with bows, or plaits. Either plaits or pony tails with bows (see the image in the introduction) are easy styles to do to your own hair. If you don't have long enough hair, however, purchase or hire a simple long brunette wig, either already plaited, or you can add plaits.
2. 
   
   • Make a wig using thick yarn. Stitch it to a skullcap such as a bathing cap, and divide it evenly. Once attached, plait as normal and add satin or grosgrain ribbon bows to the ends.
   • If you have blond hair, the original Dorothy in Frank L Baum's book series had blond hair, so no need to change it. The only problem will be that a lot of people only know the movie Dorothy.
3. Create the well-known gingham dress from Dorothy's movie character. There are several options here:
   
   • Find a blue and white checked tunic. Place a white t-shirt or blouse under it to complete the look - see image. Old school uniforms might be ideal for this! The tunic style with blouse or t-shirt is the most faithful reproduction of the costume.
   • Find a blue and white checked dress. Look in charity stores, online auction sites, costume stores, etc.
   • Sew your own blue and white dress. Use a simple design, as shown in this image; the simpler, the better. The important thing is the blue and white gingham.
   • Add frills under the dress if wished.
4. Buy red sparkling or glittered shoes at your favorite shoe store. If you can't find what you're looking for, here are some good options:
   
   • Make your own red glitter shoes.
   • Look at online auctions or in charity stores.
   • Wear red patent leather or other red shoes minus the glitter. No harm done provided they're red!
   • And don't forget the socks! Wear short socks with your red shoes. The socks can be white or blue.
5. Carry Toto the dog around with you. If you don't have a real dog, or a cooperative one, buy or use a stuffed toy dog.
   
   • Carry a small picnic basket or a similar small basket. Toto often sat in the basket (as in the image), so make sure there is enough room for your dog, real or stuffed!
