How to Create a Hulk Hogan Costume

What are you going to do, brother?! Dress up as the WWE's main man, Hulk Hogan and be noted.

Things You'll Need

A shirt you're willing to part with
Bandana
Mustache of some sort
Pants or trunks
Boots
Belt(s)
Knee pads
Red and yellow spray paint
More red and yellow spray paint
Yellow-rimmed sunglasses
Red and yellow boas

Steps

  1. Get the mustache.

    • If you're old enough (and of the right gender), you can try growing out your own mustache. Dye it blonde if necessary (temporarily, unless you're really hardcore) and there you go.

    • For those unwilling or unable to grow a mustache themselves, you can try fake mustaches (easily obtainable at any costume shop), dyed cotton balls held on with spirit gum, or just some yellow eyeliner, depending on your budget and how authentic you want to look.

  2. Wear a bandana. Depending on which Hogan era you're going for, you'll need a different color bandana. "Classic" Hulk Hogan (the one from the 80s that bodyslammed Andre the Giant) typically wore a yellow bandana. "Modern" Hulk tends more toward red bandanas, and "Hollywood" Hogan from the mid-90s had a black one. If you're looking to make a Hollywood Hogan costume, look elsewhere, brother.

    • In either case, you need to write something on the bandana. Choices include "Hulk Rules," "Hulk STILL Rules," "Hulkster," and "Hulkamania." As for getting it on the bandana, you can either hand-paint it on with fabric paint (will yield good results, but is time consuming,) Magic Marker it on (faster, but less "professional" looking) or simply buy an authentic Hulk Hogan bandana from the WWE store and wear that (best-looking, but expensive.) The coloring of the letters should be opposite of that of the bandana (IE yellow on red or vice versa).

  3. Snag a shirt. Hulk's shirt should be sleeveless, though not necessarily a wife-beater. Again, your choice of red or yellow, but make sure its color is whichever one the bandana isn't.

    • The shirt must also have a slogan painted on it, but make sure its a slogan you haven't put on the bandana. Choices for the shirt include "Hulk Rules," "Whatcha gonna do, brother!?", "Hulk STILL Rules," "American Made," "Hulkamania," "Runnin' Wild!," or simply "Hulkster."

  4. Let 'er rip. What good is a Hulk Hogan costume if you can't dramatically rip open your shirt? Note that this part is for male Hulksters only. The simplest way to make a rippable shirt is to cut a small downward slit at the neckline of the shirt, cut off the bottom seam of the shirt entirely, and simply rip when (and where) appropriate. This, while best-looking and dramatic, has two downsides: One, you just tore apart a perfectly good shirt. Two: Now you have no shirt. To get around this, buy a cheap shirt you're willing to part with, pre-cutting down the middle, and applying velcro to either side. velcro the two halves up, rip when so desired, then simply velcro it back up, that it might be re-ripped later. Repeat as necessary, brother.

  5. Pick your pants. Classic Hogan wore yellow wrestling trunks, which are easy enough to obtain, and if not, a yellow speedo is pretty much indistinguishable. For those who don't want to walk around all night in what amounts to tighty whities, Modern Hogan wears spandex pants to the ring. Tye-dye is your friend here. Get some white spandex pants and tye-dye them red and yellow. Done. A less sophisticated solution is simply wearing solid red or solid yellow spandex pants. The spandex aspect is key, though; people will call you on it if you try to get away with regular pants.

  6. Wear your hair in the right way. Hogan’s hair is about halfway to shoulder length, and is bleach blonde. Additionally, you can wear a bald cap for added authenticity, but if you don’t plan on removing the bandana, then don’t bother.

  7. Wear red kneepads. Easy enough to obtain. If all else fails, get some white ones and spray paint them red.

  8. Buy some boots. The somewhat hardcore will get themselves a pair of actual yellow wrestling boots. The really hardcore will then paint red flames and the Hulkster's face on the boots. Everyone else will simply hit the Army surplus store, get a pair of cheap combat boots, and spray paint them yellow. Don't forget the soles. In any case, the laces should be white, so obtain accordingly.

  9. Choose your wristwear. Classic Hulk wore white tape on his wrists. Modern Hulk wears yellow wristbands.

  10. Consider accessories. Yellow-rimmed sunglasses and both red and yellow boas are optional, but only for Modern Hulk. Classic Hulk needed not such things. Also, Modern Hulk, seeing as he's pushing 60, wears a red weightlifter's belt with "HOLLYWOOD" painted on it in yellow, but only the truly hardcore wrestling fans will "get" that on Halloween night. A suggested alternative is to paint "Hulkster" on it, simply for added recognizability.

  11. If you desire to be champion (and after all this, who wouldn't?) the WWE sells foam-and-plastic championship belts. They're easy enough to find at toy stores, and they run about $15, so it’s not too big a budgetary strain. There's no good way to fake a championship belt. Any homemade belt is going to look it; this is the one area you can't skimp out on.

  12. You're done! Strut your stuff on Halloween night, prepare to be stopped for photos frequently, and remember to stay in character. Use phrases like "Well ya know something, brother..." "Whatcha gonna do..." and calling people "Hulkamaniacs." Advise people to train, say their prayers, and take their vitamins. Claim to be a Real American, and that you fight for the rights of every man. Strike the Hulkster's signature poses, and generally have a great time.

Tips

The physique of the Hulkster isn't really necessary, but it helps.

How to Dress Like Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is not just a great Halloween costume but for any other costume party as well, but it's easy to see why it could be hard. Here's some ideas on how to get started.

Steps

  1. Use dark blue liquid eye-liner to make a lightning-bolt tattoo on the right side of your face. Start with a triangle above your eyebrow an then continue right at the bottom of your eye.
    • Apply a lot of black eyeliner, but not so much that you look like a raccoon.
    • Put on a significant amount of silver eye shadow.
  2. Get a long, straight, platinum blonde wig.
    • Put the bangs flat across your forehead.
    • Take two lengthy pieces from the crown of the wig and make them oval-shaped loops. Pin down with bobby pins.
    • Take a piece of hair from the back of the wig and roll it in a roller. Pin down when it reached the point in between the loops. You should not see the roller.
    • Use mousse to make the loops of the bow stay up.
  3. The outfit is the hardest part. It may be easiest to wear a black leotard or a white dress with one strap. Most of Lady Gaga costumes/outfits are very crazy and unrealistic for the real world, thats why it is suggested that you go with a Lady Gaga costume when she first came out, from her just dance video, a lose blouse that goes below your waist and bright tights that can be found at any accessories store, a black fedora, she dosen't wear it much but at one point it was a signature look.
  4. Black chunky heels work great. You could aslo get away with wearing crazy hightops in bright clours are also very Gaga.

Tips

If you have light blond hair you could use your own hair. It may end up not as great as you might think after your done though.

Things You'll Need

  • Blue liquid eyeliner
  • Black eyeliner
  • Hair mousse
  • Blonde wig
  • Silver eyeshadow
  • Black heels

How to Look Like Amy Winehouse

A simple guide on how to look like Amy Winehouse. Amy has a very unique style, which is quite easy to emulate.

Steps

  1. Firstly, and possibly most importantly, is the hairstyle. If you wish to look like Amy Winehouse, it is necessary to have a beehive, as it is very important to her look. I wouldn't recommend having one as large as Amy sports. As long as your hair is at least shoulder-length, you can create this style, though.
  2. Amy makes a big statement with her make-up. To get her look, firstly apply some foundation. Don't use one too dark or light, and try not to create a matted look, you want it to look quite natural. Next, take some black liquid eyeliner and apply to your top lids. As you reach the corners of your eyes, flick outwards and create a dramatic wing effect of to the side. Amy makes this flick very thick and long, usually reaching her eyebrows, but if you feel this would be a bit too much, you can tone it down. Apply as much or as little mascarra as you wish. Finally, the lips. Amy doesn't usually wear much lipstick, so stick to perhaps a tinted lipbalm for daily wear, but if you are going out (e.g. to a disco or party) then go for a vibrant red! You can check out the video below to recreate Amy Winehouse's Signature Makeup Look.
  3. Amy's style is very individual and quirky but, most importantly, fun. When shopping, go for vivid colors - a bright yellow dress (as pictured above), or a classic black number would be good for going out somewhere. On casual days, a vest and skinny jeans should suffice. Team up with brightly colored heels and silly accessories.
  4. Amy is a big fan of body-art. Tattoos are something big to seriously consider, and it would be daft to get one simply to look like Amy Winehouse, but if you currently do have tattoos, this will add to the look.

 Tips

  • Don't be shy! Amy is very confident and doesn't care what others think of her. If you look like Amy you will probably get a few looks in the street, but I'm guessing this won't bother you, no?
  • Amy's look is a big mix of everything - from kooky emo to 40's glamor. Choose whichever style you're most comfortable with and buy clothes within that range, and don't be scared to shake it up a little
  • Amy is famed for her trim figure. Keep yourself in shape by doing at least 30 minutes of exercise a day and eating a healthy, balanced diet.

Warnings

  • Amy is currently at an unhealthy weight! Do not aim to be underweight, simply healthy and slim.
  • Don't do drugs. Amy has severe health problems because of drugs; actually, a few more years of living like that would kill her.
